Responsibilities

  • Following GMPs
  • Follow SOP, SSOPs, and foods safety and quality guidelines
  • Assist in tracking raw material and ingredient inventory for tea processing
  • Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of tea production records
  • Cleaning and sanitizing of tea processing room prior to start up
  • Cleaning and sanitizing of tea processing at closing of shift
  • Basic computer skills
  • Responsible for ensuring process Critical Control Points (CCPs) are completed, monitored and recorded
  • Verify cleaning practices and ATP swabs
  • Verify tea work orders and bottling work orders are accurate and in use
  • Must follow GMPs and SOPs at all times
  • Notify supervisor or manager of any production down time, equipment breakdowns, quality and food safety issues/concerns
  • Any other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager

Production Line Employee – The Living Apothecary

Department: Production

Pay Range: $16-$22

Job Description: Responsible for all production start up duties such as cleaning of equipment and tools. Check and log chemical concentrations of each chemical station at least once per production day; ensure a clean environment prior to production start up.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for using ATP swabs to ensure line cleanliness
  • Notify supervisor and manager immediately of out of spec ATP swabs
  • Responsible for filling our pre-operational checklist if you are opening
  • Responsible for filling our post-operational checklist if you are closing
  • Ensure production line starts in a timely manner
  • Assisting in calibration of equipment
  • Responsible for cleaning of line at end of production shift
  • Restock production supplies such as labels, tape guns, and any other necessary production supplies as needed
  • Restock production handwashing station with paper towels and soap as needed
  • Must follow GMPs and SOPs at all times
  • Notify supervisor or manager of any production down time, equipment breakdowns, quality and food safety issues/concerns
  • Any other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager

Fermentation Technician – The Living Apothecary

Department: Quality Assurance

Pay Range: $20-$26 

Job Description: The fermentation technician will oversee the fermentation process of Kefir Water for The Living Apothecary product line of Organic Probiotic Teas. This person is responsible for overseeing the fermentation process of kefir water from start to finish. Fermentation batches happen at minimum twice a week (subject to change).

Responsibilities

  • This person is responsible for the maintenance of fermentation records such as kefir water batch cards, but not limited to these batch cards
  • Responsible for recording all quality, sensory, and physical attributes of each batch
  • Responsible for calibrating lab equipment such as scales, pH probes, temperature probes and brix meter
  • Responsible for testing and recording each batch for pH, brix, taste, temperature and aroma
  • Responsible for producing enough volume of kefir water to keep up with TLA production schedules
  • Responsible for weekly kefir water inventory
  • Responsible for cleaning fermentation room, tools and equipment in order to minimize any cross-contamination
  • Responsible for notifying QA Manager of any deviations in batches
  • Responsible for advising your manager or supervisor when you are low on ingredients, tools, etc.
  • Notify supervisor or manager of any production down time, equipment breakdowns, quality and food safety issues/concerns

Job Description: We are looking for a professional Plant Manager, responsible for managing all aspects of operations and for delivering consistent, high quality product to our retailers.  You will forecast, plan, and manage all aspects of production including orders, staff, and finance.  The ideal candidate will have a strong eye to continuous improvement with the goal of maximizing efficiency and revenue by streamlining procedures and lowering overall costs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage all production aspects and day-to-day operations to the highest standards, working alongside our QA & Operations Manager
  • Ensure productivity standards are maintained through the efficient scheduling, training, and management of line staff
  • Lead and develop production through ongoing training and relationship and respect building
  • Create weekly work orders, communicate and organize staff roles and responsibilities
  • Ensure all aspects of business are running smoothly
  • Report directly to COO and ensure she is kept informed at all times.
  • Comply with and implement all health and safety regulations related to our business as outlined in our HACCP plan
  • Oversee traceability from start to finish

Continuous Improvement:

  • Develop and lead the continuous improvement initiative for production with ongoing necessary improvements in processing, manufacturing, sourcing, supply chain etc.
  • Identify, suggest, and implement best practices to facilitate solutions and methods that will optimize processes in all areas of the business
  • Partner with business and functional leaders to drive operational excellence and create a sustainable continuous improvement culture across the organization

Production Maintenance:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) program for all production line equipment
  • Maintain functional knowledge of all production equipment operation
  • Supervise production line changeovers and adjustments in a timely manner
  • Schedule and supervise Preventative Maintenance (PM’s) on all production equipment as directed by work orders
  • Develop and sustain production personnel training programs that enable independent trouble shooting and rectification of routine equipment interventions

 Team Supervision:

  • Develop and instill culture of positivity and engagement both within department and across the business
  • Manage team(s), acting as a leader and escalating issues through the proper communication channels
  • Develop team(s), addressing and appraising performance, identifying training and development opportunities, and acting as a coach/mentor when required
  • In tandem with COO and QA Manager, interview, and hire new employees
  • Oversee the training of all production personnel
  • Supervise the maintenance and submittal of accurate payroll records and timecards for all production personnel

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assigned cost center budgeting, control, and meeting financial targets set
  • Participate in developing operating budget and budgets for capital projects

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3+ years of beverage/food related operations management experience
  • Proven food and beverage management experience
  • HACCP certified
  • Working knowledge of various computer software programs
  • Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently
  • Mastery in delegating multiple tasks
  • Communication and leadership skills
  • Up to date with food and beverages trends and best practices
  • Ability to manage personnel and meet financial targets

Associate Brand Manager – The Living Apothecary

Location: Berkeley, CA

Company Background: The Living Apothecary produces a line of innovative, delicious water kefir teas that contain the same probiotic content as kombucha but with much broader taste profiles and that can be created in both still and sparkling variations.  The Company was founded in 2012 by Shari Stein Curry and Traci Hunt whose mission was to make superior, sustainable and compassionate products that properly feed the body and soul.  They use only the highest quality, painstakingly sourced ingredients as they believe a beverage needs true legs to stand on.  The Living Apothecary currently offers eight delicious flavors of kefir waters. They are distributed at select Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Bristol Farms, Mother’s Markets, Lazy Acres, and other top retailers.  The Company has partnered with LA Libations, an incubation platform that is partially owned by The Coca Cola Company, and it recently received an investment from Venice Brands, who will now become a key partner in building out the brand’s strategy, third partner network, and internal team.

Job Description:  The Associate Brand Manager will be a key member of our growing marketing team. This position will report to the Director of Marketing and also work closely with the co-founders to drive execution of the marketing strategy across all areas. This role offers the opportunity to gain a wide range of marketing experiences, be a part of building a brand from an early stage, and grow professionally along with the company.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Director of Marketing to bring the Living Apothecary brand to life through digital touchpoints, PR, marketing messaging, and retail support
  • Monthly reporting and ongoing tracking for marketing performance and metrics
  • Be the owner and organizer of all brand and marketing assets and files
  • Create PowerPoint slides and presentations for internal reporting and sales presentations
  • Participate in marketing strategy and campaign planning
  • Develop branded assets working with designer(s) for tradeshows and sampling events
  • Manage coordination of key events and sampling efforts (e.g., Expo West)
  • Help manage creation of branded swag, printed materials, and sales materials
  • Coordinate samples for press, influencers, events with operations team
  • Assist with social media engagement and influencer outreach

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, business or marketing focus preferred
  • 3-5 years of work experience in a relevant role, CPG experience preferred, Natural Products experience a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Able to complete data analyses and create charts and tables in Excel.
  • Strong PowerPoint skills – for internal and external presentations
  • Strong organization, project management and communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a small, fast-moving company with minimal oversight
  • A sense of positive urgency in executing everyday responsibilities
  • Photography, Photoshop, & graphic design skills are a PLUS
