Controller – Venice Brands

Venice Brands is seeking a highly analytical, strategic addition to its team to serve as the company’s Controller. This position will serve as the Controller of multiple emerging brands, and over time this person will build out a strong shared services capability across the AR, AP, Accounting and Treasury functions.  This person must have 5+ years working as a Controller for emerging food & beverage brands and deep Excel / QuickBooks Enterprise experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare or direct preparation of reports that summarize and forecast company business activity (financial statements, P&L, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies) , and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations
  • Prepare and file annual tax returns or prepare financial information so that outside accountants can complete tax returns
  • Prepare or direct preparation of budgets
  • Monitor financial activities and details such as reserve levels to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met
  • Receive, record, and authorize requests for disbursements in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Advise management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities. Direct determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets
  • Advise management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax code revisions.
  • Conduct or coordinate audits of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and statutes
  • Delegate authority for the receipt, disbursement, banking, protection, and custody of funds, securities, and financial instruments
  • Coordinate the month-end and year-end closing process
  • Review company financial statements for accuracy and clarity
  • Maintain current knowledge for organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards
  • Supervise employees performing financial reporting, accounting; payables and receivables, payroll and budgeting duties
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of accounting and other financial staff, recommending and implementing personnel actions, such as promotions and dismissals
  • Develop and maintain relationships with banking, insurance, and non-organizational accounting personnel to facilitate financial activities

Qualifications

  • Requires a BA, BS, or higher degree
  • CPA, professional accounting education, or graduate degree in finance
  • 5 years minimum experience overseeing the finances of an organization
  • Substantial experience setting up and managing QuickBooks Enterprise; must be able to set up chart of accounts, bill of materials, etc. and then oversee management of it
  • Substantial experience in food & beverage industry, including a minimum of two years as a controller for a brand that has in-house production and inventory management
  • Experience managing people
  • Experience preparing financial statements and practicing GAAP
